This calculator gives you a quick estimate of your take-home salary after income tax for 10 countries. Select your country, enter your annual gross salary, and see your estimated net income, monthly take-home pay, and effective tax rate. Tax brackets are based on official 2023–2024 rates.

How income tax brackets work

Most countries use a progressive tax system — you don't pay a single flat rate on all your income. Instead, different portions of your income are taxed at increasingly higher rates. For example, in the US, the first $11,600 of income is taxed at 10%, the next portion at 12%, then 22%, and so on up to 37% for income above $609,350.

Your effective tax rate is the actual percentage of your total income that goes to tax — it's always lower than your marginal rate (the rate on your last dollar earned). That's why it's misleading to say "I'm in the 32% bracket" — you're not paying 32% on all your income, just on the portion that falls in that bracket.

What this calculator does not include

This is a simplified estimate for comparison purposes. Real tax calculations are far more complex: they include social security and national insurance contributions, pension contributions, personal allowances and deductions, state/regional taxes, tax credits, investment income, and more. For accurate tax planning, consult a tax professional or use your country's official tax calculator.
